The 2009 World Games Medal Design Concepts
The medals for the 8th World Games in Kaohsiung are designed to reflect a unique history and vibrant cultures in Taiwan.
On the face of the medal a wave representing the “Ocean City” of Kaohsiung carries the logo of the International World Games Association (IWGA) and the butterfly, which echoes Taiwan being crowned the “Kingdom of Butterflies”, signifies agility and beauty of the participating athletes.
On the back side sits the trademark of The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung Organizing Committee (KOC) and a lily flower that symbolizes freedom and purity.
On top of the medal, the lazurite bead is an ancient treasure of Taiwan’s aborigines. The medal’s ribbon, on the other hand, is a combination of ramie-like materials with traditional aborigines’ totems.
The medals for the official sports are 8.5cm in width and 6.5cm for the invitational ones.
